Santa Teresa is our 1969 Mariner 40 ketch, a sailboat with two masts. She was constructed in Far East Shipyards in Japan from 16 tons of mahoghony. "ST" is 40 feet long and her full-length keel stretches six feet below the water to hold her steady in the heaviest seas.
We purchased her on Halloween, 2004 and moved her to San Diego in December. We sold our home in Phoenix, Arizona and moved aboard in April, 2005.
Santa Teresa is a loving "work in progress." Since purchasing her we have replaced all the lifelines, added water tanks, a bimini, generator, liferaft, epirb, radio, replaced numerous items on the "devil" (the Perkins 4-107 diesel engine) and much, much more.
It's been a learning experience and in June, 2007 we hauled her out of the water and stripped the hull completely to bare wood. Everyone (including the surveyor) was amazed at how good she looked as forty years of paint came off. Her colors have been changed from white with 1970s green accents to a rich cream with varnished wood bulwarks. John actually repainted the masts while on the water from a bosun's chair!
The next steps are below where we plan to revarnish the cabin, add refridgeration and install new counter tops.
